Geese rescued from frozen pond recover at Walden’s Puddle

Geese recover at Walden's PuddleThe Curly Breasted White Sebastopol Geese that were frozen to the ice on Lake Watauga at Centennial Park in Nashville were brought to Walden’s Puddle by one of our volunteers who happened to be in the area.

Upon admission, the geese were very skinny, cold and exhausted from attempting to free themselves. They have since warmed up and are getting plenty to eat, having daily bath time to maintain their waterproofing, and socializing with the other waterfowl in our avian room. The geese will remain in our care until they are back in a healthy state, at which time they will be placed appropriately.

Because they are domesticated waterfowl, they are bred to be cared for and looked after on a daily basis. Domestic species are typically not able to survive on their own in the wild.

We are thankful to everyone who showed concern and tried to lend a hand or bring awareness to the situation. If you would like to aid in the care of the geese, you may place an online donation through our website or mail a check to P.O. Box 641, Joelton, TN 37080. On average it costs $105 per week to care for a single goose at our facility.
